You don’t need to wait for someone to ask you on a date. Take yourself on a date. The concept of dating yourself may initially seem like an odd fad. You know like one of those fleeting internet trends that are over quicker than it’ll take you to read this entire post.
But the perks to solo dating are endless. Dating yourself is the perfect opportunity to learn more about yourself, while experiencing new places. You don’t have the social crunch of having someone you know around. And this may be uncomfortable. Once you get over that hump, solo dating is quite enjoyable. In fact, I’ve already recommended it to my single and coupled friends.
If you’re ready for a solo date night, but are in need of inspiration, consider one of the ideas listed ahead.
1. Go To A Museum
Museums are educational and provide an unmatched culture enriching experience. There are several different types of museums you can visit. You can go to an art museum, science museum or even a toy museum. Whatever you’re interested in, there’s likely a museum catered to it.
2. Visit An Art Gallery
Visiting an art gallery is a fulfilling experience. Art galleries are filled with new and imaginative art pieces. You can explore artwork from established artists, as well as emerging talent. It’s the perfect place to go if to be inspired. Check the website of your local art gallery for new collections.
3. Take A Hike
There’s nothing quite like enjoying the great outdoors. Hiking improves bone and heart health. It also has the ability to reduce anxiety and ease stress.
Don’t let the cooler months stop you from experiencing the many joys of hiking. Throw on those layers, comfortable insulated shoes, and a thick wool hat. And you’re good to go!
4. Have A Self Care Day
Treat yourself to a day of pampering. Schedule a soothing facial or a relaxing massage at your favorite spa. If you have the weekend off, then consider booking a room at a local resort. Resorts usually have full-service salons, casinos, and ample amenities surrounding the facility.
You can also have a self-care day at home. Grab your favorite book, your favorite beverage, and fill the tub with moisturizing bubble bath. It doesn’t get much better that that!
5. Go To A Yogo Class
We all know yoga can improve your flexibility. But yoga may also help you to relax and better manage stress. There’s no need to feel embarrassed if you’re not all flexible. Yoga classes are all about making progress at your own pace.
If you don’t want to take a class, try at home yoga, or even guided meditation. You can find free tutorials online.
6. Try BINGO
BINGO gets a bad rep. Some say it’s just for their aunt’s, grandmothers, or practically anyone that remembers when the Car phone was a thing. It is actually fun, especially when you have multiple playing cards.
BINGO is a competitive yet friendly environment. You’ll meet new people and have a good time playfully booing whoever yells BINGO before you. Plus, you may actually win some money.
7. Go Camping or Glamping
This is such a great solo date idea. Rent a cabin in the woods or try your hands at pitching a tent. Bring your phone, of course. But try to use modern technology as little as possible. Enjoy the many sounds and smells nature has to offer.
For a more luxurious experience, opt for glamping. You’ll have all the extra amenities regular campers usually don’t have access to.
8. Treat Yourself To Dinner
Why wait for someone to ask you to that fancy new five-star restaurant. Get dressed up, spritz on your favorite perfume, and take yourself out to dinner. Order a special meal to accompany your special night.
You don’t need to call or text someone to be entertained. Take the time to have a conversation with yourself. You could also journal. Make note of your current aspirations, or struggles, or simply how you’re feeling being alone in such a public place.
After dinner, you can go see a movie in theatres or do some window shopping.
9. Get Crafty
Enroll in an art class and get your creative juices flowing. You can take a drawing, painting, photography, sewing, or even a pottery class. Choose a medium that speaks to you.
Check out art studios in your area for open classes. The local community college may also offer art classes that are open to nonstudents. Course fees at community colleges tend to be relatively affordable.
10. Try Wine Tasting
Do you love wine? Then, consider attending a local wine tasting event. These events are a great way to meet new people and learn more about the history of wine. Not to mention, you can try new wine without needing to invest in a full-sized bottle.
11. Go To A Local Open Mic
Open mic nights attract talented performers of all kind. Enjoy live performances from up and coming singers, comedians, and poets.
12. Have A Picnic
Make yourself your favorite meal and enjoy it in your favorite park. Turn your phone on vibrate and simply enjoy the wonderful sounds of nature. Modern life can be so fast paced. It’s easy to forget to slow down and truly enjoy the moment.
